EDIT 1-25-11: The surprise transportation is a chartered articulated ("bendy-middle-type" to you and me) OC Transpo bus. They match our wedding colours and Erin and I have taken many adventures on the OC over the years and thought it would be fun. Bring bus riding songs! The bigger size means it will have space to take everyone seated(!) in two trips - the first for everyone not in the photos, the second for family members needed for the group shots.
We know many of you are coming from out of town and we also know we've chosen to get married at the worst time of year to try to drive. We're hoping that most of you will choose mass transit options for weather reasons, because parking is awful and expensive in Ottawa and to make for a more ecologically-sound wedding.
Getting To Ottawa
Good news train people: the train is on sale!
For people coming from Ontario, we do really recommend the train. Return train-fare for two adults from Kitchener is $406 which is steep until you consider that those same two adults will spend $150 on gas and $60 on parking plus wear and tear. So the difference is not so great after all. We're hoping that maybe a train trip together might be a fun visit for a bunch of you. Maybe carpooling would be a good option for others.
For people making the trek from the Maritimes, flights from Halifax are all coming in under $400 return on Air Canada, Westjet and Porter, The train is also an option, but will only save $50 for enduring 20-25 hours of travelling. Carpooling might make the most sense - it being a 16 hour drive from New Glasgow and a few hours less from Oromocto.
For the BC folks, you'll be flying or asking your druid priestess for a teleport spell. Sorry, we weren't consulted on making this country so crazy big. Though extra points and warm-up poutine will be given for guests who ride the rails hobo-style through the prairie spring to get here.

Getting Around Ottawa
We're hoping that folks will leave their cars at home or at the hotel - we're arranging transportation from the ceremony to the reception. To get to the ceremony, you can take the 2 bus headed south on Bank Street, hopping off from or the 95, 96, 97 on the Transit way, headed west on Albert St, right beside the hotel, getting off at Westboro and switch to the 2 - This would be my method. You could also pool for a cab which would be comparable to bus fare for 4 at $15.
We have a surprise for transportation from the ceremony to the reception. It will be a collective transportation option so that we can all go together. I won't say anything more than that it matches our colour scheme and that it will be fun. There is basically no parking at the reception venue due to aggressive neighbourhood anti-parking-lot activism. Just another reason to make it a public transit adventure with the rest of us.
Finally, for transportation from the reception back to the hotel we are hoping to encourage everyone to take mass transit or cab pool. This is because being DD is not much fun and, at the same time, not having a safe way home is a terrible idea. We will be wrapping up by 1am, which is before the last #1 bus runs by just 1 block from the Glebe Centre venue and 2 block from the Crowne Plaza/Delta Hotel. A cab ride will be about $9, so a cab-pool of 3 will be even cheaper than the bus. I imagine some will want to take the party to another location, and the reception is located only a couple blocks from several great pubs to end the night (Irene's at Bank and 5th, 2 Royal Oak Pubs on Bank, a couple others and James Street pub further up towards the Hotel).
I hope that this answers questions, but if it doesn't, please comment below and we'll edit this entry to reflect the answers, such as they are. Getting excited to see you all soon!
